What you see below is a laundry basket filled with scraps left over from years of quilting and sewing. I can't bring myself to tossing them.

If they are big enough, I cut them into usable pieces, anywhere from 1" to 5", and into strips if there's enough fabric.  Eventually the really odd or small pieces get stitched into blocks like these below. Sometimes, even if the scrap is big enough, I'll go ahead and use it in one of these crumb blocks.  It really is a lot of fun to just let go and stitch without thinking too much. I have quite a few big blocks like this which I think would make a pretty nice quilt.  These are things I work on when I can't get into the mood to focus on anything else.

I could use your suggestions about how to put these sampler blocks together. That green block in the corner seem really out of place (and seems to be trying to escape) but my aunt made these and gave them to me so I want to do something with them.

And by the way, Debra, I have some binding for you.

Last, enjoy the first color of early spring. Our weather has been so crazy - freezing and snowing one day; 70 degrees the nest. Poor little jonquils are confused.

I have an appointment for a massage later today. I have a really sore muscle on the left side of my neck/shoulder. It's killing me right now as a matter of fact. I hope the massage will help.

Hope you are having a good day.

New AAQI quilt

From a design by Lenna Anderson of Stitching Cow.
Posted by Picasa

I took Lenna Anderson’s lovely spring flowers embroidery and added a crazy patch border. These are actually strips of leftovers from another project. All the pinks, greens, and lavenders lend such a cheerful spirit to this small quilt. Spring is all about beginning again and renewal which is what makes it such a happy season full of hope. And, that’s what the AAQI is all about: hope.

1930's Quilt

A gentleman wanted to show me this quilt. A woman in Virginia found it and sent to to a small church in the Vinings area. It was made by her mother and her quilting friends around 1933 - the date is stitched into the quilt top, thank goodness. The name of each quilter is stitched onto the block she made, so it's almost a roll call of who attended the church at that time.

The quilt was sent to the church and lay unnoticed for some years until a member found it and had it framed. It now hangs in a prominent position and will be dedicated soon.

I was pleased that the gentleman wanted to show me the quilt. I recognized a name or two because they, or their daughter, was one of my elementary school teachers.

The church has quite a history, too, and an unusually high number of prominent members from the local community. It was a pleasant hour I spent listening to the history of this small church. I have driven by there for years and always wondered about it's history. I was pleased to learn I had a very slight connection to it.

Yet Another Tempting Quilt Project

Quilting ADD strikes again. This utterly charming quilt project found me and is calling my name. On the other hand, all the UFOs upstairs in the Quilting Closet are saying "No! Stop!"

Wonder who will win this battle.

DH and I are up early and trekking over to ST. Joseph's to get our second third TB test read - long story about #2 - so that we can volunteer on Dec. 25th with the B'Nai Brith Pinch Hitters. We are assigned to St. Joseph's Hospital from 7 to 11 am on Christmas Day. Getting the TB tests has taken longer that then number of hours we will be volunteering. But it is worth it and the hospital staff are extremely grateful. Plus, we get a T-shirt.

Stressful times at work what with yet more budget cuts and we are barely covering bases as it is. Will have to get very creative this year.

Sometime this week I will post pictures of a couple of doll quilt tops I whipped together on Sunday, about an hour before we left to hear the Irish Tenors at the Cobb Energy Pavilion. What a wonderful, low-key evening, and what a generous gift from my brother and his wife. They treated me and the two girls, plus four other friends to an evening of soothing, nostalgic Irish and Christmas music. This trio's voices are fabulous. I must be getting old, to find such stuff entertaining. Well, there's a lot to be said for it.

I will post pictures (calm down, legions of readers) - I thin it's hilarious that i have an entire day to quilt and find inspiration in the last free hour I have in the day.

East Cobb Quilt Show

Best of Show - beautiful.

I have this book (below). This makes me want to dive in and create this beauty.

Made from the rusted fabric technique.

One of my favorites.

Images from the East Cobb Quilt show. Will upload more as time permits. There were lots of very beautiful quilts this year.
