Did You Notice When You Were Pregnant?

Do you believe this is possible?

Even if pregnancy doesn't enter your mind (although you do remember having sex on a regular basis, you're in excruciating pain, there's blood coming from somewhere down below, and your belly is as hard as a concrete slab), wouldn't you consider it as a possibility?

I'm having a hard time buying this one.

Oh What a Night

I don't usually work Mondays (and this is my last month to work evenings/weekend! YAY!) but swapped so that I could be off on my regularly scheduled evening. To make a very long, tortuous story short, we had to deal with a very agitated, mentally ill individual who, by the time it was all over, was either going to sue me or report me to the highest person in the county he could find. All because he interpreted my questions as refusing to give him information. By the time it was over, I was ready to go over the desk and throttle him but one must not give in to impulses in these things.

But, I would rather talk about this: making lanyards and keychains out of scraps of fabric! This is why we save every inch, isn't it? You just never know when some creative, bright person is going to come up with a way to use them.

I can't wait to make myself one of these lanyards, since I have to wear an ID badge, keep a couple of keys and a flash drive handy at all times. Right now I'm using the one I bought at the Houston quilt show, but this would be so much more fun. Maybe even embellish with some beads? I love it when I stumble on another quilter's extremely creative ideas that they are willing to share. And aren't we the most generous bunch of artists around?

Symphony

Think how nice this picture would have been if I'd actually used both lips when I smiled.

DD's and I went to hear the Atlanta Symphony Saturday night to hear Gershwin's Concerto in F and Theofanidis' Symphony. It was a excellent concert. How lucky to have a world class symphony in my home town.

Taming the Voices

The Voices Inside My Head have been busy the last few days. The Committee is in session. Do you have a committee that meets regularly in your head to monitor your every activity, every word?

I do.

This committee works overtime.

They keep me updated on what that which I have done which I should not have done; and that which I didn't do but should have done. And they critique what I did do, and it usually ain't that good.

Usually the mantra goes something like this: "You're an idiot. You're an idiot. You're an idiot."

Even my voices are dumb. Oh lord. Now I have voices criticizing the voices.

I need to put the voices on hold.

"Figure out what you have to do to enjoy the time you have on this planet.
You're only here to distract yourself until you die." - Loretta LaRoche

Happy Birthday, Doris Day!

Happy Birthday,
Doris Day. You are the Queen!

Thrifting Sweater Yarn

Here is a great tutorial for harvesting yarn from thrift store sweaters: how to choose a garment, how to unwind the yarn, judging the gauge, washing, winding, just about everything you need to know. I'm often tempted by some of the sweaters I see at thrift stores but after trying unsucessfully to unwind the yarn in a couple, I gave it up. I don't knit enough, I thought, for this to be useful. However, you see that beautiful yarn hanging there and think how much you like to knit in the evenings, and how much you like scarves, and how self-righteous you feel when you thrift something....and the temptation overcomes you. I'm glad to have something to show me how to make my thrifting worthwhile.
